I found new music!!!

Well, new to me anyway. If you are looking to spice up your i-pod for fall and winter I highly recommend these:

Artist: Baaba Maal
Album: Television

This is a mix of West African and Brazilian. It seems like an odd combo, but it's really great!

Artist: Michael Hearst
Album: Songs for ice-cream trucks

Keep summer alive! These bouncy tunes are mixed with eccentric instruments. Fun, fun, fun!

Artist: MC Yogi
Album: Elephant Power

MC Yogi mixes Hindu/Indian rhythms with hip hop. I can guarantee you have never heard anything like it!

Check em out and let me know what you think, but you don't have to take my word for it!

I blame Beyonce

A Confession

I spend a lot of time alone, it just ends up that way. In my isolated boredom I become more and more antsy as I click around the web, read books, or tidy up my living space. Then it happens, my Ipod selects Beyonce, and I'm moving. Backbends and splits intertwine with hip swaying dance moves. I find myself putting on music video after music video. Madonna usually joins the mix, as do Ciara, David Bowie, Scissor sisters, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, and um... Okay, Fergie (don't judge me). Next, with my feet still stampin', I find myself trying on crazy outfits (that I would never leave the house in) and putting on outrageous make-up. I emulate the dancer's moves in the videos, sometimes I use props ala chairs, mirrors, and walls. I dance til my thighs scream, and I am dripping with sweat. I dance til' exhaustion. Then I slowly un-peel my scandalous get-up and crawl into bed. The next morning I wake up with make-up and glitter covering my pillow, and I feel fabulous.

deja vu

Guerrilla

Here I am, in our nations capitol. Every night I sleep a little sounder knowing that Obama is within a 6 mile radius of me. I am temporarily stationed (as per usual) here as a nanny for a lovely little baby, named Dvora Tova. I have mostly been spending my weekends at the amazing AND free museums that D.C. has to offer. My favorites are the Natural History Museum, and the 5 building art museum --packed full of Rodin, Van Gogh, Warhol, and the likes--. Lucky me.
I have also discovered Guerrila Gardening. This is the act of planting in neglected private/public land. So far I have filled some lonely planters with cilantro and parsley, and filled in some tree cubes with buckwheat. Hopefully they will look less pathetic soon! Here are the before pictures, check back for the afters.
